The Project:

Body image is one of the most talked about issues of modern life, whether it’s the negative effect of seeing photshopped models everywhere or the increasing promotion of body confidence. Our survey for plus size clothing rental company, Gwynnie Bee wanted to find out how American women feel about the issue.

Whilst 46% of the 2,000 women surveyed say they still feel pressured by society to be a certain weight or shape, 42% believe things have improved in body diversity in the media in the last 10 years. Unsuprisingly, 85% believe it is important  to have women of all shapes and sizes in the media and 50% admitted that seein a celebrity with a body simialr to their own make them more confident about their own body.

But which celebrities are the most influential when it comes to promoting body confidence? Melissa McCarthy topped the poll, followed closely by Adele and Oprah Winfrey. Other women named as promoting a healthy body image included Kelly Clarkson, Amy Schumer, and J-Lo.
