Princess Diana has been named the biggest style inspiration of all time.
Our survey for rental clothing company, Le Tote, saw ‘the people’s princess’ take not only the all-time crown but also beat some big names to the top style icon of the 1980s. Other icons of their time included Coco Chanel in the 1920s, Katharine Hepburn in the 30’s and Lauren Bacall in the 1940s.
More modern icons included Jennifer Aniston (1990’s) and J-Lo (2000’s), whilst KateMiddleton took the top spot as the modern day style icon.
The survey of 2,00 Americans also looked at icon clothing items as well as the biggest fashion faux pas of all time. Bellbottoms were voted the most iconic garment of all time, followed closely by the mini skirt in second and the slightly more ‘on trend’ skinny jeans in third. Other items included shoulder pads, platform shoes and leg warmers.
Less favourable trends in fashion included crocs, trucker hats, harem pants and Uggs. But it was the Whale Tail (an exposed thong showing above the waistline of your pants) that was named the biggest fashion faux pas. So remember to keep them pants pulled up!
