Chocolates? Teddy bears? A five-star restaurant? We all know the classic beats of a Valentine’s Day while in a serious relationship, but did you know that men actually shell out nearly twice as much money on their significant others than women? This new study by Groupon reveals just how much effort we put into making our Valentine’s Day special, and men take the cake by planning on spending $217 this year, relative to the $99 expected to be shelled out by women.

Nearly half of the men surveyed rated themselves as ‘very romantic’, while just under 40 per cent of women described themselves in the same way. Better start saving for next year, fellas…
